It's been an eventful weekend for defensive back Kobe Boyce.

The Lake Dallas product picked up an offer from Texas A&M on Friday. He visited Texas on Saturday and picked up a Longhorn offer before he left Austin.

On Sunday, Boyce decided to close the weekend with a bang by announcing a commitment ... and it was good news for the Longhorns.

"I just thought, why wait when it 's the school you've been dreaming to go to?," Boyce said. "I didn't think twice to wait at all. That's what I wanted to do."

Boyce considered committing on the spot when he picked up the Texas offer on Saturday, but decided to wait a day to think things over. He actually called UT head coach Charlie Strong on Sunday morning to commit and on Sunday evening, he was more than happy to deliver the news to the public.

"I talked to my family about it for sure. I talked to my coach. They support my decision. I prayed about it, thought today was a good day to do it," Boyce said.

"First, it's the flagship school of the state. I wanted to stay close to home. And I knew if I went to Texas, it would benefit me in the long run. I just feel at home there."

The 6-0, 170-pound Boyce had worked his way up to 11 scholarship offers before deciding on Texas. He has developed a good relationship with UT defensive coordinator Vance Bedford and Strong over the past few months, and Boyce said he's excited to be a part of what Texas is building.

"I just like what Charlie Strong is doing up there. He's come through a lot, been through a lot in the past year. I like what they did with their recruiting class in 2016, the last three days before signing day with all the commits," Boyce said. "I don't know what's going on up there, but I know something good is going on and it would be good to be a part of it."

An athletic cover corner who is also a physical tackler, Boyce thinks he can bring a well-rounded skill set to the Texas defense.

"What I do well, people say I'm a long, athletic corner, very physical," Boyce said. "I make good plays on the ball. I have good speed. What I want to improve on is my speed. I want to be the fastest one out there no matter what. I want to get stronger too, be able to jam anyone I want, work on my hips. I have good hips, but not perfect. I'm trying to improve my technique."

Boyce checks in at No. 41 on the 2017 Lone Star Recruiting Top 100. He becomes the Longhorns' fifth commitment in the 2017 class and UT's first DB pledge.

Boyce chose Texas over Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Baylor.
